Bio:Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. And as we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Marianne Williamson (paraphrased)

A few things about me. I'm gay, gay, gay.

Now that that's out of the way, you should know that there's really no such thing as 'gay'. Yes, I know I just told you I'm gay, but what I really meant to say was, "I dig guys all the way to China and back." Actually, I think given where I'm currently living, Australia would be closer to the mark. Now ladies, don't think I've forgotten about you - it's just that guys are so much more interesting in ways I can only begin to explain. I'd like to think if the right person comes along, it won't matter what's under the hood.

Despite being "gay gay gay", I'm not particularly flamboyant. I guess I have my moments ("Darling!"), but mostly am comfortable with being me.

I know the difference between religion and belief, and pretty much don't do either. And I won't hold it against you either (though I will hold you accountable for holding it against me). I thought a lot about god(s) and religion, and around 14 y.o. I decided to test the waters. I became a lot more comfortable after the first week passed without a single lightning strike. With that small step, I started finding my place in the world.

I've been told I'm good with computers, and if I'm not feeling overly modest, I'll even admit it. Yeah, I find it a safe place. Everything is repeatable (within reason, anyways). Computers are wonderous, all-purpose tools that seem to solve almost as many problems as they create. ;) Actually, I have been very impressed with how computers and the internet have helped the world talk to each other, and allowed people to share their happiness and pain in a sort-of 'global social market'.

I listen to a lot of music during the day, and have come to tell people that I'm closed-minded so they won't expect to share on that basis. I'm not sure closed-minded is the right phrase. I would prefer to explain it as having exacting standards as to what constitutes musical entertainment within the context of my life, but telling people this doesn't seem to do it. I find music really personal, and I tend to choose what to listen to based on mood. On the flipside, almost nothing is more aggravating than listening to music that doesn't match my current mood. I have many tests for music. I'm not being anal-retentive or anything, this is just a loose collection of observations of what tends to spark my interest. Lyrics, for example, tend to be either nonsensical or personally relevant. In the end, I evaluate music as an organic whole, so even though Roger Waters and Joe Strummer can't sing all that well, everything still fits because the style of music complements them.

For a couple of years I even tried my hand at composing music, a hobby that at its height saw a room decked out with several thousand dollars of synthesizers (quite an investment for someone of my then-meager means). It lasted a bit over a year. Then after several months of intense frustration, I walked away from it all.

I also enjoy movies, though I tend to search out territories that are less well traveled. Titanic? Give me a break. How about Delicatessen or Old Boy? Give me something to think about (that is, unless I'm in the mood for something like Airplane!). I've posted a bunch of reviews in my journal and other places, though now that I've quit Netflix, I'm not expecting to continue contributing as often.

Another rather recent interest of mine is freshwater aquariums. Like anything new, I latch on with fervor and do tons of research, coming up with all sorts of wild ideas to try. Just ask me about the 250 gallon Capt. Nemo 'corner' multi-tank idea...

My family is a disaster area, and if you read my journal you'll start to realize this. I spoke to my dad once in the past 15 years, and while I semi-regularly talk to my mom, that doesn't mean we are all that close. Sometimes I get a bit down or angry about it, but in the end I move on with my life.

I have just a few guidelines I like to follow. I tend to post what's on my mind as if I were talking in a semi-public place (eg - resturaunt). Disagree with something I said? Post a comment. I like constructive discussions. Also, I tend to remain polite and avoid swearing/abuse/derrogatory terms/name calling. There are exceptions (and slip-ups), but I ask commentors to respect my boundaries. I'm not trying to be a prude here, as I have friends who choose to swear A LOT, but that's their space. I like to use cut tags for lengthy posts, and I appreciate it when people on my friends list have the courtesy to do the same. I like to keep my journal as open as possible to encourage comments/friends, so expect any comments made to be public.

Want to friend me? Sure. Do it. I love friends. Even better, post a quick comment in my journal someplace. I currently don't have all the email notification stuff turned on, so that will help ensure I see it. I don't always friend other people back, so don't take it personally if this happens to you. It may just take some time for me to recognize a good thing when I see it.
